Presented as part of the annual Tipperary Dance Festival and part of a double bill of works performed this evening: 'OWE' is inspired by meditations on Yoruba proverbs, proverbs that act as an archive of ancestral knowledge, intuitions, and values.

Daniel Abreu's EL HIJO [‘The Son’] talks of the special bonds of children to parents and places. In a certain way, offspring understand themselves as individuals unloosening from the bond, yet hopelessly entangled in a repetition of manners and actions - something which can only be partially explained. Because at the end of the day individuals always carry within them the echoing reinterpretation of their particular story.

"The visually powerful staging is impeccable...the music is thoughtfully chosen, with its persistent percussions...the dance is energetic and expressive... and the fine lighting grants colour and light a prominent and relevant role'" Revista Susy-Q, Omar Khan

Founded in 2004, the Daniel Abreu Company is considered one of the most recognised on the Spanish stage. The company has visited more than 40 countries in its regular tours around Europe, the Americas and Asia.

'OWE' is inspired by meditations on Yoruba proverbs, proverbs that act as an archive of ancestral knowledge, intuitions, and values. This solo performance uses personal and found archival material as concept, visual design, and soundscape, with an energetic blend of traditional and contemporary movements. It is an emotional resurrection of a past that is both personal and ancestral. Mufutau Yusuf has performed in Ireland, Europe and the US and is considered one of Europe’s most electrifying dancers.

"When the charismatic Mufutau Yusuf is onstage, it’s hard to look anywhere else”- Gia Kourlas, Dance Critic, The New York Times

Note: 'Owe' contains the use of smoke machines and strobe lighting.
