Deej Fabyc is an Australian/UK-born performance artist, curator, and CEO and Founder of Live Art Ireland, a dedicated artist residency research centre based at Lisheenboy House (formerly Milford) in North Tipperary.
For their exhibition at the Source, Deej will use performance, installation, photography, and film “to trace, on and through the
body, what cannot easily be said. I return to embodiment, grief, neurodiversity, ageing, and loss, not as separate subjects
but as different pressures on the same material: a body that ages, that mourns, that keeps working anyway.”
Featuring individual works including: ‘Passing Point 2’ structured as a striptease that dismantles the performance of normalcy, with audience members marking sites of personal pain directly onto the body, building a collective cartography of what we usually keep hidden; ‘Secret Distortion’ turns a car into an intimate mobile cinema, a small-enclosed world within a larger durational performance addressing gender identity: and ‘Portach Promenade’, a community grief walk conceived with her late partner Mark Newell, held space for collective mourning at Redwood Bog which is becoming a feature-length film.
Working from North Tipperary, rather than a major city, has kept this artistic practice close to a specific community and a specific landscape, even as it moves between other locations.
Personal loss, bodily unmaking, and a world in crisis are held together here, none of them cancelling the others out.
