Filmmaker Julie (Tilda Swinton) and her mother Rosalind (also played by Tilda Swinton) confront long-buried secrets when they return to a former family home in Wales, now a hotel haunted by its mysterious past.
The ever-present swirling fog, eerie happenings late at night, and tales of faces appearing at windows firmly position the film as a ghost story, but Hogg is using the tropes to cleverly unpack her own family history.
