The Fionn MacCumhaill Players make a return visit to The Source with their production of the Marina Carr classic.
Hester Swane, a 40 year-old woman from an Irish travelling family is abandoned by her lover, Carthage Kilbride, the father of her child. Kilbride is set to marry a 20 year old farmers daughter for land and wealth,, leaving Hester alone.
As the wedding day approaches, the past and present close in on Hester, as her own personal history collides with this new betrayal, her sense of displacement and the rigid hierarchies of rural Irish society.
Set in the midlands, and loosely based on the Greek myth of Medea, Carr's play is known for its lyrical language, dark humour, and exploration of themes of motherhood, loss and greed.
