So much has been written and said about Bridget Cleary - documentaries, plays, television programmes have all looked at the story of the woman known as the last witch burned in Ireland in 1895. Was Bridget Cleary a witch or a fairy as her husband claimed or was there another reason for the awful torture and murder of this 26 year old woman?
‘Bridget’ is a short film written by Cloneen natives Brian Clancy and Anne Williamson and filmed by Diceman Productions. Looking anew at the story , the film delves into Bridget’s illness, what led her husband to believe that the fairies had taken his wife and left a changeling in her place, and the disastrous consequences of that superstition.
