Anne Frank Movie

The Diary of Anne Frank introduced readers all over the world to life in hiding for a young Jewish girl during WWII.

(Patrons Note: This screening was rescheduled from it original date 26th April)

In this beautiful animation from director Ari Folman (Waltz with Bashir), the character of Kitty – Anne’s imaginary diary friend – comes alive in the famous Anne Frank House and sets out to find out what happened to her friend.

Folman creates a beautiful animated world, including a bustling, present day Amsterdam, in which Anne appears to her friend in flashback, showing the sparks of personality that anyone familiar with the diary will recognise. Perhaps over-ambitiously, Folman tries to extend the story to the contemporary refugee crisis, which horrifies Kitty. This warm film is a sensitive tribute to all who have faced persecution past and present.

Dir: Ari Folman 99 mins, Belgium-Luxembourg-France-Netherlands-Israel, 2021
