Gordon Hogan studied at Limerick School of Art and Design and at the Munich Academy of Fine Arts In Germany. After spending over twenty years in Munich, this will be his first solo exhibition in Ireland. The exhibition is made up of all new works which include a large-scale installation, video art and sculpture relief works.
Gordon Hogan’s work looks at the inherited landscape. From the earliest times, humans have tried to contain and control the landscape through building, reclamation and alteration. The legacy of the changes made, the buildings and structures placed upon our landscape and their eventual collapse over time, are central in this series of works. With this physical collapse, can be the suggestion of allied changes in political, religious and societal structures, happening contemporaneously or following later in time.
Hogan’s images and sculptures playfully re-arrange elements within buildings and landscapes. Received and perceived values are altered, reduced into their essential physical elements and then built up again, offering them, as new constructs, a new value system through display in the setting of a contemporary art gallery.
