Thurles Drama Group presents John B. Keane’s classic play - set in the rural Ireland of the 1950s, where money was scarce and small farming people struggled to survive. Sive lives with her grandmother and uncle Mike whose wife Mena is permanently unhappy with her domestic situation. Mena sees an opportunity when matchmaker Thomaseen Sean Rua arrives with a proposal of marriage - to a much older man - for Sive. Matters involving morality, love, money, family, greed, loneliness and loyalty are all part of this brilliant story. Most important of all, this play is about real people living real life in 1950s Ireland.
