A Lover's Complaint

 20-04-2010 to 20-04-2010
 12 noon

A Lover's Complaint

A must for all 5th and transition years. This one man show is a collection of early Shakespearean poems run together to under the abiding theme of the illusion and eventual disillusion of love. A crash course in Shakespeare and in love, vividly brought to life on stage.

A Lover's Complaint is the longest of the poems. Told through a narrator who takes all the roles, it speaks of the seduction of a young and sadly now hysterical lady by an equally young and beautiful Lothario.  Tragedy seems inevitable.

Other poems combine in this Shakespearean delight, be it Venus and Adonis in The Passionate Pilgrim, pastoral bliss in Sonnets to Sundry Notes of Music, or cynicism with bleeding hearted shepherds in Poor Corydon. But what did Shakespeare himself really think of love?
